Plaquemines Seafood Festival May 17-20

Plaquemines Seafood Festival
The Plaquemines Seafood Festival is being held May 17-20, 2012 and will be serving the best tasting seafood in Southwest Louisiana. The festival is designed to support local charities and is a wonderful time to come together and celebrate the rich heritage of Plaquemines Parish. The Seafood Festival will be located on F Howard Hebert Boulevard, right off Woodland Highway in Belle Chasse.

Seafood and Carnival Food
Naturally, seafood will be the highlight of the festival. No matter what you’re in the mood for, you can expect to find it at the Seafood Festival. Boiled shrimp, boiled crawfish, fried oyster po-boys, crab pasta and fried catfish are some of the favorites to indulge in. If you love to be daring when it comes to festival food, you can also enjoy alligator sausage and boudin, fried tomatoes with shrimp sauce and raw oysters on a half shell. There will be other festival foods to enjoy such as hot dogs, nachos, popcorn and candied apples.

Carnival Rides
If you need a break from eating, be sure to stop by the carnival that opens at 6 pm on Thursday and Friday and 10:30 am on Saturday and Sunday. There are rides to please everyone such as bumper cars, the spinning Himalaya, the daring Firestorm and the tot-friendly Kiddieland. Don’t forget to slide down the Superslide or go for an adventurous round on the Remix 2. After visiting the carnival at the Seafood Festival, you’ll feel like you just spent the day at a giant amusement park.

The stage will be continuously going with live entertainment as well, so stop by to listen to some talented Cajun artists. You can also catch a ride in a helicopter, work on arts and crafts with the kids and participate in sandbagging contests. The helicopter rides are certainly the most amazing and offer a pristine view of the Mississippi River and the Plaquemines region.

Seafood Queen Pageant
Beauty pageants are a hit in Southwest Louisiana, and the Plaquemines Seafood Festival didn’t forget to add this fun into the event. All single ladies between the ages of 17 and 23 who live in Plaquemines Parish can register to be in the pageant. There will be plenty of queen-like activities for all who visit the royalty. A new queen will be welcomed, with a luncheon to follow.
