Family Gras in Jefferson Parish February 10-12

Looking for a family-friendly activity that you can do this weekend? The Jefferson Convention and Visitors Bureau is hosting Family Gras on February 10-12, 2012. Family Gras is a celebration of carnival and family and is the perfect getaway for families, especially in the midst of winter. This premier carnival event is one highly anticipated by Jefferson Parish and features local and national bands, all-American favorite foods and drinks and interactive games. There are free outdoor concerts, a delectable food court, live music and a parade. The event is held at the neutral ground of Veterans Memorial Boulevard that is located across from the Lakeside Shopping Center.

There are a variety of packages to suit the needs of every family, and The Royal Pass gets you backstage access, VIP food and beverages and a valid pass throughout the entire weekend. The event is broken down into three fun-filled days that include Fright Night Friday, Sports Saturday and Carnival Sunday. On Friday, dress up in your favorite scary costume, on Saturday, wear your favorite team colors and on Sunday, wear green, purple and gold in honor of Mardi Gras.

Throughout the weekend there will be two stages with constant live entertainment. Some familiar faces you expect to see include Hot Chelle Rae, Bonnie Dune, The Vettes and The Creole Stringbeans, among others. For the kids, you can expect a face painting tent, colorful floats during the parade and some of the best foods around town, including fried Oreos, rib-eye steak, deep fried Twinkies and crab cakes. Of course, you can’t forget the Louisiana favorites such as charbroiled oysters, crabmeat raviolis and seafood gumbo.

In addition to eating, drinking and listening to music, you can catch an autograph from a select artist and raffles with great prizes. The festival is free, but you can upgrade your experience with a weekend pass that can be purchased in advance through TicketMaster or at the gate on Friday and Saturday – cash only. This will give you more comfortable seating, a premium viewing area and access to food and drinks.

The festivities start at 5:30-8:30 pm on Friday, 11:00 am – 7:30 pm on Saturday and 10:00 am – 5:00 pm on Sunday. Family Gras is the perfect way to get in the spirit for Mardi Gras, while being able to enjoy the fun in a family-friendly atmosphere.
