Louisiana Coast, January 2017 – Visitors to the Louisiana coast come to this unique area for many reasons, including the area’s rich cultural heritage and fascinating history. Of course they also flock to the coast for the abundance of outdoor activities and to get some good old-fashioned R&R.

Louisiana offers heart pounding, hard fighting tuna fishing action year-round. As one of the greatest fisheries in the entire world, the blue water south of Louisiana contains an enormous variety of fish species such as yellowfin, blackfin and bluefin tuna. From New Orleans, to Grand Isle, Lake Fourchon and Venice Louisiana, there are hundreds of available charting boats with experienced captains and crews that have spent a lifetime fishing the Gulf of Mexico, in the deep waters, and around the many oil platforms.

When visiting what Louisiana locals call "Cajun Country", visitors quickly see that the locals set the pace and take the time to enjoy the natural habitat around them, and one of the most enjoyable activities in Cajun Country happens to be the simplest of them all: bird watching.

Yellowfin tuna are migratory fish found in the gulf waters and can be caught year-round off the coast of Louisiana. The average yellowfin tuna weighs between 50 and 150 pounds, with the larger ones weighing as much as 200 pounds.
