Are you traveling to Louisiana with family or on business and looking for an opportunity to add a great day of golf to your schedule? Or are you and some friends considering taking a few days and playing your way across the state on a bona fide “golf-cation”? If you answered YES, then make sure you don’t miss 2 of the best sites along the Audubon Golf Trail which are easy to get to and happen to be nestled along the southern coast of Louisiana.

About the Audubon Golf Trail
There are several great golf trails in the US, but the Audubon Golf Trail offers great golfing venues along with the outdoor adventures, unique culture and great seafood of Louisiana. The Audubon Golf Trail was established in 2001 to attract golfers to Louisiana.

Each golf course must meet a certain set of criteria that centers on yardage, maintenance, experience and golf shops. Additionally, all of the courses are members of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary that protects the environment and preserves the original heritage of golf. Best of all, there is plenty more to enjoy along the coast than just golf, making the Golf Trail appeal to a variety of people. This is especially true for those member sites located along the Louisiana coast where in addition to the golf, you can find many outdoor adventures that will satisfy even the pickiest traveler.

Two “Must Play” Stops Along the Audubon Golf Trail
So if you are headed to one of Louisiana’s coastal areas, here are 4 of the top stops along the Audubon Golf Trail you simply can’t afford to miss

  • Gray Plantation, Lake Charles: Listed as one of the Top 100 public golf courses in Golf Digest magazine, this 7,000 yard course has 18-holes and is designed for both pros and amateurs. What sets this course apart from others is that it’s settled along 60 acres of lakes that has 94 bunkers, dramatic par-3 holes and a clubhouse that sits on a raised plantation. In fact, two of the par-3 holes feature island greens which will test your nerves as well as your skill. Gray Plantation is located in Lake Charles, Louisiana in the heart of Calcasieu Parish.

  • The Atchafalaya at Idlewild, Patterson: The Atchafalaya Basin surrounds this stunning golf course that spans out at 7,533 yards and contains five lakes and ten wetland areas. The course was designed by the same designers (Von Hagge, Smelek, and Baril) who built Doral, LaCaosta and the TPC at Woodlands and features dramatic elevations with spectacular views of the Atchafalaya Basin. Each of the 18-holes is named after wildlife that is commonly seen at the basin. Also, the course also features a unique “common green” which is shared by holes #9 and #18 overlooking the clubhouse. Another bonus: there is a practice facility for getting in a few extra shots. Patterson is located just outside Morgan City, Louisiana along US Hwy 90.
